Note that sometimes the scenery mesh won't properly snap to grouped objects in 3D. I often design a layout in the Atlas program, then copy and paste the whole thing into SCARM to run virtual trains on it. You can also open SCARM files with both programs (but be careful - if you save a file with a newer version of SCARM, it won't open in older versions of either program). The Atlas program doesn't have the 100 object limit, and while it only comes with Atlas track libraries, you can copy and paste other track from SCARM.
If you want to get really fancy, you can also download the Atlas planning program (which is a clone of SCARM), and copy and paste your SCARM layout into it. If you're working with sectional track and have a lot of short sections, replace them with one long piece of flextrack. Track and benchwork doesn't group, so you'll end up with a group of just the scenery items.) (You don't have to select them all individually, either - just hit Ctrl-A. You can ungroup them at any time if you want to change something. It will make them all a single object, so most of those 100 objects can be track. Select all your scenery objects (trees, buildings, etc.) and use the "group" function.
